Pears are for Eating: a Pleasant Side Effect of Living a Whole, Plant-Based Lifestyle

As an adult, I've always had a pear-shaped body: small in the waist and bigger in the hips, butt, and thighs. Because of my shape, I always absolutely dreaded shopping for pants, especially business pants, for two reasons.

First, the styles I liked never fit me right. If they were small enough for my waist, I couldn't get them over my thighs, butt, and/or hips. If they were big enough for those areas, they were huge around my waist. Second, the pants that did actually fit both areas exaggerated my bigger bottom sections and made me look huge. So I usually I tried to compromise by finding pants somewhere in-between that were typically too big in the waist and a little snug below the waist, pulling, twisting, or digging in somewhere around the top of my thighs.

The last time I bought a nice pair of business pants was in early 2010, and I wore those pants several times in the past. Recently I've managed to get by with dressier jeans and haven't had to wear those nice, business pants for some time. I pulled them out of the closet after a year and a half of living a whole, plant-based lifestyle to see if they even still fit me. They don't. They're a size 10 and they're huge!

Time to buy new pants. The old, familiar dread came over me again. Yikes! It's been over three years since I bought nice pants and the memory still haunts me. I bravely went into the store and grabbed pants that I liked, hoping by some miracle they might fit. I started with size 6 because that's the size of the last pair of shorts I bought. I tried on the pants, and much to my surprise, those that did fit, fit me perfectly and fell nicely over my shape! THAT HAS NEVER HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE!!! And the others didn't fit because they were too big! The same styles that pulled, twisted, or dug into me in the past now fit me like a glove!

The bottom line is that my shape has actually changed! I'm no longer pear-shaped and I'm well proportioned! By living a nutrient-rich, low-fat, whole, plant-based lifestyle, I've lost the fat I had stored in all my "hard-to-lose" places that I never thought I could lose, without even trying! Now I have a shape that fits into standard, off-the-rack clothing! Trying on pants was actually fun for me for the first time ever! The only pears in my future will be the ones that I eat!
