You may have tried to lose weight at one time or another, many of us have. How did it go? Did you reach your goal weight? If not, were you able to lose at least some weight? And then, were you able to keep the weight off or did it come back (possibly even with a vengeance)?
Here's the thing: you've got to ask yourself "Why do I want to lose this weight?". Wanting to lose weight for the sake of losing weight alone is simply not enough to keep you motivated enough to overcome the habits that got you where you are now.
In order for weight loss to occur and to be lasting, there has to be a big enough underlying reason for doing it - a big enough "Why". Your "Why" might be for better health, or to have more energy, or to be able to walk up a flight of stairs without getting winded, or to feel more attractive, or to feel better about yourself, or some other reason.
And then, you have to ask yourself, "Why do I want _______?". For example, if your "Why" is to have better health, ask yourself "Why do I want better health?" - maybe it's because you want to be around to take care of your family, or maybe it's because your mother or father didn't live long enough to be at your wedding and you don't want to miss your daughter or son's wedding.
Then ask yourself one more "Why?": "Why is that important to me?". For example, "Why don't I want to miss my child's wedding?", the answer may be "Because I know how much it hurt me that I didn't have both of my parents at my wedding and I don't want to put my child through that". Now you're getting to the core! This is your truth, and this is the fire that breeds success!
Once you have this awareness, you will be able to make better choices every time you put something into your mouth. It all comes down to choices. Use the power of your "Why" to make the best possible choices.
