Julie & Julia & Terri

I watched the movie “Julie & Julia” last night. If you haven’t seen it, it’s a true story about a common passion for food and certain parallels in the lives of two women who never actually met. One is Julia Child, the famous chef. The other is Julie Powell, an aspiring writer and about-to-turn-30 New Yorker who commits to cooking all 524 recipes in Child’s cookbook in 365 days and blogging about it daily for all 365 days in order to become a “published” author.

This movie hit home with me for several reasons. First, I grew up in a household that embraced and served much of Julia Child’s style of cooking, heavily influenced by the incredible tastes and richness of French cooking loaded with seasoned meats, vegetables, butter, heavy cream, white flour, and wine. Second, I have a passion for cooking, and over the years have, among other things, prepared and served several of Julia Child’s recipes, including my absolute favorite, her infamous Boeuf Bourguignon! Third, I have a passion for good health and learning to adapt my skills in the kitchen to prepare great-tasting, nutrient-dense, plant-based foods. Fourth, I too would like to someday become a published author of a book on nutrition. And finally, I already have this blog, which I started last October, and have not been posting as consistently as I would like.

This movie inspired me to step up and do more toward reaching my own goals in the fields of plant-based nutrition, health, and wellness. So here it is: beginning today, July 14, 2013, I’m making a commitment to write and post something to this blog every day over the next 365 days! My posts will include, and not be limited to cooking. I will share recipes, ideas, and cooking tips for packing nutrition into the foods you eat. This will include learning and sharing ideas from many recipes, including Julia Child’s vegetable recipes in my own copy of her book “The Way to Cook” and possibly some plant-based versions of her meat recipes, although I don’t know that I will be able to do those justice. However, it will be fun to try! I will also share information about food, nutrition, health, activity, and wellness to help you make informed choices. Essentially, I will share much of the same type of content as I’ve already been sharing in my blog posts, except that I will post something every day over the next 365 days.

Bon Appetit and To Your Health!
